Dear Family and Friends,
Temperature finally dropped down to -7 this week again. Random people have
been telling stories of warm beaches and sun and how they were there or are
going soon, teasing us pretty much. I think it's so strange how AK feels warmer
than the lower 48 as I have heard this winter-- really strange! This week has
flown by so quickly I am trying to remember what really happened.
This week my companion shared a great analogy that hit me about the spirit:
when many people were little they would tie together a string and a cup on each
end and listen you are playing telephone-- it is really hard to hear what this
other is saying and the vibrations in the wire or string is not always the best
to hear from, but you can hear it, you just have to really listen. It's just
like listening to the spirit. SOMETIMES, the adversary is sitting on that
string, making it so so difficult to hear because he doesn't want us to. He
knows what will distract us from listening. He plays at our weaknesses or the
hardest things we have to overcome. A woman (Sister Giliam) shared her testimony
in Relief Society yesterday and earlier that week we were sharing the gospel of
Jesus Christ with her family and her sons, girlfriend, an investigator-- she
talked about the steps we take in the gospel, faith repentance, baptism, the
gift of the Holy Ghost, and how we have to keep taking those steps over and over
again and what sin is is just allowing the adversary to take away our peace. The
gospel brings peace. We have to listen closely, the only thing that is truly
ours is our will, and that is what our Heavenly Father asks of each of us, to
make our will his, or our "eye single to his glory." To see as he sees and to
live up to the potential he sees in us because it is infinite.

We also talked about focusing on our abilities, not our disabilities, and
passing on that good. We are each given so much good. There is a boy in our ward
who when challenged by his leaders as his peers to give away a Book of Mormon,
even though he wasn't sure what he would do and admits it really isn't his
nature to do that, he brought it with him to school. He brought it out in a
class and a few of the guys started to give him a hard time about it. The one
who was leading that teasing said, "I know it's not true, because someone told
me so", when he was challenged with this he said "have you read it? I know it is
true because I have read it" he shared his testimony with the boys and while the
other guys still poked and prodded at him, the one who had been the most abusive
talked to him on the side and thanked him for that testimony and accepted the
copy. I am grateful for that boy's testimony. The gift we receive to share with
others. The Book of Mormon testifies of Christ, a companion to the Bible, never
to lessen the other. They both testify of Christ and his doctrine, the Gospel,
the only way to find true peace and joy in this life and in the life to
come.
We have been doing a lot of family history training recently- working on
PAF/ etc. Any information would be great. The Elders in our District switched
cookies and ice cream with us this week for a big plate of cake we received-- we
decided to just head right into the ward board game night and SHARE all that
good sugar- haha, thank goodness, I don't know if I can take any more
sugar!
We visit a woman way out in the bottom of Anchorage who is not a member but
is such a sweetheart, and she has a dog named Tuffy. Tuffy is a little silver
(dog that looks like toto from wizard of oz but i can't remember what the name
of it is) and he has a pet fish named Elvis. Yes, the dog has a pet fish and it
is THE cutest because he jumps up on the table and this red beta will barely be
moving and Tuffy just feels the need to push it and scare the fish to have him
move- he REALLY loves that fish. We went this week and helped while we were
changing Elvis into a new bowl a little bigger than the other one and Tuffy went
nuts! He was so protective of the fish and after we finished he stayed RIGHT by
the bowl staring at him, making sure that he was okay. Take into consideration
that this is pretty much on of THE cutest dogs I have ever seen- poor thing went
through a lot that day.
The Bush Branch is SO AWESOME- we went to P.E.C., sat through Elders Quorum
and Sacrament meeting over the Polycom at the Klatt chapel this week before
heading back for Rabbit Creeks meetings. Wow they really know what they are
doing and there are people ALL over Alaska in that branch! From King Salmon to
Manakodok-- excuse the spelling- it's completely phonetic. We had a lesson with
a woman last night and it is amazing how people wind up out that far
teaching.
Something I love that was said this week: "It's okay to be stubborn, just
about the right things" our testimony is something we have the right to be
stubborn about, along with our talent, kid still, yes, but stubborn to what we
know to be true-- out of time, love you all!!!!!!!
Love,
Sister Wuehler
